Gongwin Biopharm Expands an new PTS Ablation Approach for Lung Cancer Across Southeast Asia

In May, Gongwin Biopharm Co., Ltd. achieved a significant milestone in its Southeast Asian expansion by successfully applying PTS (Para-Toluenesulfonamide) in the treatment of central airway tumors. This cutting-edge therapy, aimed at debulking lung tumors, was carried out in partnership with distributors in Singapore and Malaysia, with procedures performed at renowned hospitals such as Singapore General Hospital and Serdang Hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

A total of three cases were treated, targeting malignancies including Mucoepidermoid carcinoma, Adenoid Cystic carcinoma, and other types of central airway tumors. PTS demonstrated a promising therapeutic response across all cases. The innovative procedure involves injecting the PTS drug product directly into the tumor site using established interventional pulmonology techniques. The necrotic effect typically occurs within the same day, without damaging healthy surrounding tissues.

Dr. Jamalul Azizi, Head of Pulmonology at Serdang Hospital, commented:
"Intratumoral injection may be a valuable alternative to hot and cold therapies in cases of mixed malignant central airway obstruction. It has the potential to eliminate the need for stenting and offers a promising option when standard debulking techniques fall short."

The PTS technology has been well received by distribution partners, and negotiations for licensing deals in these markets are underway. The Southeast Asian market for PTS therapy represents an estimated $100 million USD opportunity, and Gongwin Biopharm is strategically positioned to capture significant market share.

Looking ahead, the company plans to extend this innovative treatment approach to Thailand, Vietnam, and Australia, with implementation expected to begin in June and July.

Dr. Melvin Tay of Singapore General Hospital and Dr. Jamalul Azizi of Serdang Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, came to Taiwan to observe Dr. Shun-Wen Kuo's surgery at NTUH's Department of Thoracic Surgery.
