New Anti-Cancer Weapon Secures U.S. Patent as Gongwin Eyes Global Licensing
Unlike most targeted therapies, Gongwin’s independently developed tumor ablation drug PTS and its related patents have officially received approval from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), according to an announcement made early today (August 1). The approval provides key patent protection in one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical markets for Gongwin’s lipid raft-targeting anticancer technology, further strengthening the company’s position for the development of multiple cancer indications and future international licensing partnerships.
Most conventional targeted therapies are designed to act on a single signaling molecule. Gongwin, however, stated that PTS targets lipid rafts on cancer cell membranes. Lipid rafts function as important signaling hubs within the cell membrane and are closely associated with cancer cell proliferation, metastasis, and tumor progression, while also playing a role in multiple oncogenic signaling pathways.
What Makes Lipid Raft-Targeting Anticancer Technology Different?
Rather than blocking a single signaling pathway, PTS acts upstream by disrupting the membrane platform involved in cancer cell signaling, thereby interfering with multiple signaling pathways that promote tumor growth and survival and ultimately inducing cancer cell apoptosis. Gongwin considers this mechanism to be one of the key differentiating features of its PTS platform.
Gongwin noted that other drug-development programs worldwide have previously attempted to target lipid rafts as an anticancer strategy, but many have not achieved successful commercialization. In contrast, Gongwin stated that its PTS platform has undergone clinical evaluation, while its core product PTS302 has received approval in China as a Class 1 innovative drug and has entered the commercialization stage, providing a foundation for the clinical application and commercialization of the technology.
